The El Dorado Epicurean, a Progressive Dinner for Culinary Adventurers

Kick off the new year by celebrating California Restaurant month with a culinary adventure. On Sunday January 25th, some of El Dorado County’s finest chefs come together to create a county wide progressive dinner.  “The El Dorado Epicurean” includes a delicious four course dinner; each course is served at different restaurant.  Choose from 7 different culinary adventures sprinkled throughout the county that contain palate pleasing options for everyone (vegetarians too!).  This is a perfect opportunity to discover new area eateries, hidden culinary gems and get reintroduced to old favorites.  Participating restaurants include Crystal Basin Bistro,Snooty Frog, Log Cabin Cafe, Sierra Rizing Bakery, Hart 2 Hart Vineyards, ZacJack Bistro, Papa Giannis, Sellands Market, Zia’s Gelato, The Farm Table, Annabelles chocolates, Miraflores Winery, Brick’s on Main Street, and more.  This unique event takes place for one night only but it is guaranteed to have foodies talking all year long.

The Tickets

Tickets for the El Dorado Epicurean are $60 per person or $110 per couple before January 12, and $65 per person after that date.

Camino Culinary Adventure – This culinary adventure opens at Crystal Basin Bistro; a fun, tasty and wine-friendly first course -Strawberries and Gingered Shrimp.  Enjoy the 2nd course in country elegance of the handcrafted Log Cabin Café with a choice of two local favorites, House Special Salad made with mixed greens blue cheese crumbles, pecan nuts and house made poppy seed dressing or Italian Wedding Soup with spinach, savory meatballs, pasta, fresh basil & Italian spices. Both served with artisan bread and Butter. Committed to providing a seasonal, farm fresh menu, The Cellar at the Smith Flat House welcomes epicureans for the main course. Choose between the Smith Flat Linguine with house made Marinara, Italian sausage & fresh seasonal vegetables topped with Parmesan or Focaccia Crusted Roasted Chicken Breast – braised wintergreens and barley-faro pilaf.  End the evening on a sweet note at Independent Restaurant & Bar.in Placerville with House Made Bread Pudding with caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream.

veggieoptionColoma Valley Culinary Adventure – This adventure starts at Gold Hill Vineyard & Brewery  known for their award winning wines, brews andbreathtaking views.  The wine cellar is ideal for Epicurean appetizers but venture upstairs to the tasting room and create a perfect pair.  The second course is just down the hill at The Argonaut Farm to Fork Cafe, a cozy, river front restaurant located within the Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park in Coloma.  Taste their passion for fresh healthy food with an Organic kale salad massaged with a honey sesame dressing topped with red bell peppers and sliced apples as well as your choice of organic butternut squash or clam chowder soup.  The main course is just 2 minute drive on Historic Highway 49 to the Sierra Nevada House Historic Restaurant, Bar & Banquet Center.   Epicureans have a choice of Roasted Chicken and a bacon cheddar Belgian waffle with a bourbon and maple glaze, garlic mashed red potatoes and seasonal vegetables or Charbroiled salmon with a blackberry ginger sauce, fingerling potatoes and vegetables or Ratatouille with fresh squash, eggplant and tomato sautéed with sherry, garlic, onion and Provencal herbs served on a bed of pappardelle noodles.  The evening ends at Sierra Rizing Bakery with an elegant trio dessert sampler comprised of Peanut Butter Pie with bitter sweet chocolate sauce, Raspberry Meringue Sponge Cake and Coconut Pizzelle Wafer with Coconut Cream Gelato.

veggieoptionCool Culinary Adventure – This unique adventure begins at Cool Beerwerks  Brewery & Taphouse; a new hotspot in the town of Cool.  Choose between Ahi Poke, Korean BBQ Meatballs or Deep Fried Green Beans.  Handcrafted ales and beer complement any choice.  The second course is served at the newly expanded Cork and Fork Restaurant located at the crossroads of Highway 49 and Highway 193.   Pamper your palette with Beef Consomme,’ Poached Salmon with Dill Cucumber Sauce and a choice of Crunchy Asian chicken salad or Mandarin Poppy Seed Salad.  Hart 2 Hart Vineyards invites Epicureans to enjoy the main course catered by The Hidden Table in the elegant Vineyard Estate Vacation Rental overlooking 122 acre winery estate.  Chef Russ offers a choice of Creamy Wild Mushroom Fettuccini with shallots and herbs, tossed with tender pasta and crowned with Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese served with Green Beans or Chicken Chardonnay made with moist Roasted Chicken Breast with fresh herbs and Chardonnay combined to make a delicious and complementary sauce served with Roasted Rosemary Reds with Green Beans.  The final course is a scrumptious Raspberry and peach tart with a ginger and vanilla bean custard served at the Sierra Nevada House  in Coloma.  Hot toddies available for purchase.

FAB 50 CULINARY CORRIDOR ADVENTURE –Travel the fabulous Highway 50 corridor discover some great foodie finds. Papa Gianni’s Restorante in Cameron Park is a newcomer to the Epicurean but has been widely acclaimed in El Dorado County for 20 years using family recipes passed down through the generations. Tonight culinary travelers will have a choice of Calamari Fritta, Deep fried calamari, served with a spicy marinara dipping sauce or Bruschetta a blend of Tomatoes, onions, garlic and basil dressed with olive oil, served with toasted bread. The second course is on the south side of Fab 50 to ZacJack Bistro. Choose from a Caesar Salad made with chopped romaine dressed with house made, dairy-free, creamy garlic Caesar dressing topped with herb croutons, Asiago cheese, Meyer lemon vinaigrette, garlic crème and cilantro pesto or Twoday, slow cooked French Onion Soup served with Crostini & melted Swiss & Gruyere Cheeses. The main course is just a hop, skip and a jump away in Burke Junction. Snooty Frog offers a choice of 2 scrumptious entrees; Poached Salmon with Dijon Dill Sauce served with vegetables and rice or Bistro Chicken sautéed with artichoke hearts, capers, and garlic in a sherry cream sauce. Next head east on the Fab 50 Culinary corridor to Zia’s Italian Caffé & Gelato Bar in El Dorado Hills Town Center. Amaretto Caramel Brioche Bread Pudding served with a seasonal gelato is a delightful culinary adventure.

veggieoptionDining Downtown Culinary Adventure – This adventure was designed with vegetarians and those traveling with vegetarians in mind. Start the evening at Dedrick’s Cheese in their new expanded location on Historic Main Street brimming with hundreds of gourmet foods. Enjoy palate pleasing appetizers created exclusively for this event.  Across the street, Placerville’s new restaurant and market, The Farm Table, offers a choice of Pureed Beet Soup garnished with horseradish whipped cream & fresh dill or Grapefruit & Avocado salad over a bed of romaine lettuce.   Brick’s Restaurant, veterans of the El Dorado Epicurean progressive dinner, offers epicureans a choice between Pork Tenderloin with maple pear chipotle salsa or Chipotle BBQ Baby back Ribs or Chicken Cavatappi made with grilled chicken, bacon, artichoke hearts, tomato, basil & smoked gouda sauce over cavatappi pasta or choose any vegetarian entrée from the menu.  Finish the evening just a few feet from the iconic Bell Tower with another newcomer and quite a foodie find Pizza Bene.  Save room for the Vanilla and lavender Panna cotta with a cinnamon spice crumble topped with wine poached pear and Pi Vanilla whipped cream, pistachio, edible flowers & wine simple syrup.

El Dorado Hills Land & Sea Culinary Adventure –  This adventure sets sail at the trendy & fun Relish Burger Bar with their amazing fish tacos.  For the second course  epicureans will “jump ship” for some leafy greens at 36 Handles Pub & Grill.  Fresh Spinach, Hard Boiled Egg, Red Onion, Sautéed Mushrooms, House Made Croutons, Warm Bacon Vinaigrette.  Sienna Restaurant, the upscale eatery in La Borgata Center is the perfect port of call for Land lovers or Sea Captains alike.  Choose between the Sienna Ale braised Short Rib with parmesan mashed potatoes & gingered baby carrots or the Crunchy honey-nut crusted salmon, sparkling wine sauce, parmesan whipped potatoes & sauteed haricot verts.  Selland’s Market-Café  will bid the culinary travelers Bon Voyage with a Tasting of Winter and Tropical Fruit Desserts – Meyer Lemon Cookies, Passion Fruit Crème Brûlée, and Coconut Lime Cake.
