Upscale Dining Up the Hill

By Guest Blogger Brittany Alward

Crystal Basin Bistro claimed they were bringing gourmet food up the hill in El Dorado County. So, after a quick look at their 5 star Yelp rating, we headed out to Camino to see if they could deliver. From the delicious appetizer to our mouthwatering entrée, we were not disappointed.

What first caught our attention was the ambiance: picture an intimate room with an open kitchen, a wine tasting bar, and an abundance of colorful, local art. I was instantly smug, it was my turn to plan the date night and I had clearly chosen a trendy place.

We were greeted instantly by a super friendly staff that was eager to give both dinner and wine recommendations. We were delighted to see that most of the food on the menu was between $7.00-$9.00 with specials being around $13.99. With prices like that, I was worried the dishes would have serving sizes more like tapas. However, not only did we both walk away full, but with to go boxes in hand as well.

We ordered the stuffed mushrooms as our appetizer and each settled upon the Chicken Scaloppini Special. Everything came out perfect. The mushrooms were stuffed with sausage and cheese and smothered in a delicious cream sauce that had us mopping up every drop with our sourdough bread. All the vegetables in the dinner salad were fresh and crisp with a tangy balsamic dressing. And the Chicken Scaloppini was delivered the second it was ready by the chef himself. With lemon, cream, and capers around tender chicken, our pasta was bursting with flavor. In the Crystal Basin Bistro we found not just a trendy date but a restaurant that is going on our list of favorites. We left with to go menus, a list of concerts they are hosting, and plans to return to try the wine.
