If you love food, El Dorado County is the place to be. From Mom and Pop restaurants to amazing breweries to organic bistros, there is something for every taste. If you’re planning your next night out, allow us to make a few dining recommendations!
The Argonaut Farm to Fork Cafe (331 State Hwy 49 Coloma, CA 95613)
To enter the Argonaut is to enter a piece of history. This family-owned restaurant is located in the Historic Schulze House, built in 1916. With daisy-clad tables and a front counter graced with fresh pie, it has a rustic ambiance that makes customers feel right at home. If you’re all about organic food, you will love the Argonaut! Their menu features organic food made with locally grown ingredients from El Dorado County and Sacramento. If you have specific dietary needs, there are a variety of vegetarian and gluten-free options available. If you love Apple Hill apples, we have to recommend their Apple Spice Gelato; it is absolutely amazing! If you’d like something a little more filling, go for the squash soup or their organic smoked turkey sandwich and pair it with a glass of fresh-squeezed juice. When healthy food is that delicious, you will walk out knowing you’ll be back soon.
Pizza Bene (423 Main Street, Placerville, CA 95667)
Newly established in 2014, Pizza Bene is more than your average pizza parlor. Ben Butler opened his restaurant in hopes of bringing authentic Napoletano pizza to Placerville and he has definitely succeeded. Pizza Bene takes Italian to a whole new level with quality, fresh ingredients. Ben Butler takes his pizza seriously, playing a role in every process of the food preparation, from the noodles he makes by hand to the handmade dough made from specific imported flour to the garlic he roasts every morning. They even have a 5-star pastry chef in charge of making enticing desserts such as homemade gelato. Every detail is planned to perfection, including their pizza oven. It isn’t just any brick oven, its bricks are made from the lava fields of Mt. Vesuvius. How’s that for quality? If you’re trying Pizza Bene for the first time, go for their specialty: Margherita Napoletana. It’s a decadent pizza featuring tomato sauce, salt, mozzarella, fresh basil, and virgin olive oil. For locally made wine and gourmet pizza, Pizza Bene is the place to be.
Crystal Basin Bistro (3590 Carson Rd Suite B, Camino, California 95709)
Looking for gourmet food outside Sacramento? Crystal Basin Bistro has you covered. Located right next to Crystal Basin Cellars, Crystal Basin Bistro offers a wine-friendly menu and even a wine tasting bar inside. Rather than specializing in one type of food, they offer a little of everything and they do it well. To hear anything from the menu is to decide where you’re going to dinner tonight. (Don’t believe us? Thai Shrimp Curry on Rice, Artichoke Mozzarella Raviolis in a lemon cream sauce, and Blackened Southwestern Chicken Ciabatta with Anaheim Chiles.) They have some seriously amazing food and all of it is reasonably priced between $7-$9. However, if you want a really special treat, come to one of their three course dinners on Friday nights for $17 and enjoy live music with your meal. If you choose to dine on the patio, you can even bring your dog with you! Crystal Basin Bistro is the perfect companion to your day out wine tasting in the foothills.
