Celebrate California Restaurant Month in January with a culinary adventure down the bountiful backroads of El Dorado County. “The El Dorado Epicurean Collection of Culinary Adventures.” is a month long celebration packed with dozens of delectable deals, exclusive seasonal offerings, wine-pairing specials, gourmet prix-fixe dinners, farm tours, vineyard hikes, cooking demonstrations with amazing and innovative chefs and special discounts on food, wine, accommodations and transportation.

For the last five years we have celebrated California restaurant month by offering a several 4 course progressive dinners on only one or 2 nights during the month. This year we are expanding our horizons. For the “foodie” there is no better time of year.

The “Murder by the Glass” mystery murder dinner is the perfect blend of entertainment, exquisite cuisine, spectacular wines, a dose of intrigue in enchanted winery setting.  Enjoy a special five course dinner prepared by Cielo Estate Executive Chef Brian Overhauser, known for his innovative menus highlighting fresh, locally grown ingredients that complement Cielo Estate wines.

Murder mystery takes guests back to 1985, when pop-band manager turned wine collector, Heddy Rockstocker, made the wine discovery of the century; a 1787 Chateau Lafite Bordeaux, unearthed in a Paris cellar and supposedly owned by Thomas Jefferson.  Tonight the rare find will be auctioned off by none other than Christie’s of London and is estimated to sell for over $100,000.  Millionaires and celebrities from around the world will be attending this event in hopes that theirs will be the winning bid.  However, Heddy won’t reveal the exact location where the bottle had been found and rumors have begun to swirl.  Is it part of a Nazi hoard, a hoax or is she possibly protecting an even darker secret?

Nestled in the northwest corner of El Dorado County at the crossroads of Historic Highway 49 and Highway 193 is the town of Cool,  population is 3,972.   It is rich in history, natural scenic beauty and small town hospitality.   But in recent years it has earned the attention of the passing tourists and locals for its culinary cred.   Amazing chefs with a passion for creating a unique dish or sharing a family tradition have come together celebrate California Restaurant Month with a delicious four-course dinner, each course served at a different restaurant.  Kicking off the evening is Cool Beerwerks  Rochelle and Steve Robello added a new spin to their brewery, Sushi! With their love of sushi and Steves Hawaiian heritage they've created a Japanese/Hawaiian fusion restaurant. For the appetizer portion of the progressive dinner, they will be featuring Japanese pot stickers with ponzu sauce, California rolls, and vegetable spring rolls.

Next up, American River Pizza and Grill, famous for the Cool Deli salads and sandwiches for over 25 years. Taking it to another level, Foodies will love the fresh take on their salads. Participating in it’s 3rd El Dorado County Epicurean event, The Cork and Fork is this year’s featured entrée. While the menu has not yet been decided, guests can expect a touch of Southern, California Fusion and Italian to affect each meal. Recently remodeled to include finer dining experiences such as candles and flowers on each table to the newest preparation and cooking techniques including Sous Vide, The Cork & Fork continues to improve on the areas culinary scene.

The last stop on this very Cool Culinary Adventure is COOL BUNZ N BEANZ, the Newest and Coolest Coffeehouse and Bakery on the Divide! Indulge yourself with hand brewed coffee, specialty drinks and an array of scrumptious desserts and baked goods.
