February may be the month that fetes a ground hog and past Presidents, but we like to think of it as a month long celebration of love. We’ve compiled our three favorite ways to enjoy Valentine’s Day.  If you’ve not yet got plans, then definitely read on!

Wine + Chocolate

Like all good duos (think Jerry Lewis & Dean Martin, Steve Young & Jerry Rice, Sonny & Cher) wine and chocolate make magic when they come together. Enjoy this delicious pairing at numerous varied events at wineries throughout El Dorado County. Think Toogood, Chateau Davell, Mount Aukum, Skinner, Grace Patriot, Windwalker, and Gwinllan. If your Valentine doesn’t have a sweet tooth, check out the Red, White & Blue Cheese pairings at DK Cellars. In addition to pairings, many wineries are offering special (in some cases, secret) releases of wines, making for a truly unique way to celebrate all things love.

Brunch It!

If you’re one that believes that brunch is the most important meal of the day, you’re in luck. There are plenty of choices for you and your Valentine. Sierra Vista Winery’s brunch includes made-to-order omelets and crepes, mimosas along with your choice of Mimosa, Bellini or Champagne, which can then be conveniently followed by a wine tasting paired with (you guessed it) chocolate. Holly’s Hill is offering their version of brunch, French pique-nique style. Pork, Pate…Allez will feature sausages, tapenade, cheese and French desserts all paired with their wines.

Try Something New

Looking to break out of the mold of classic Valentine’s Day celebrations? Why not go on a hike, hit the slopes together, or even learn how to taste and blend wines. Better yet, tour a real gold mine! Gold Bug Mine is not generally open during this time of year, but they will be opening their mine doors for the long weekend.  The mine tour and all the other attractions (except the Priest Mine) are open from noon to 4 each day Saturday – Monday.

And if you’re really ambitious, then, by all means, try them all.
