Snow has arrived just in time for the three-day weekend, so if you’re looking for the perfect way this Valentine’s and Presidents Day weekend, look no further than skiing in South Lake Tahoe. Heavenly

If you’re purely in it for the runs, Heavenly offers the most trails, with 97 runs. Kirkwood

Kirkwood is a top-rated ski resort on the South Shore for all-mountain terrain. If you’re looking to get away from the crowds, Kirkwood’s remoteness is sure to please. It’s also drop-dead gorgeous, and offers smooth beginner’s trails to over 2,000 ft. of vertical drop.  Interested in exploring? There are several places on the ridge tops where you can find remnants left behind by the Washoe Native American Indians. With an average of over 600 inches of snowfall per year, they have coined the phrase, “We measure snow in feet, not inches.” If you are an intermediate skier looking for an       unforgettable excursion, Kirkwood is the place for you.

Sierra at Tahoe

Sierra at Tahoe has been rated the best ski resort for beginners, so if you’re looking to take the whole family out for a new activity, Sierra is the way to go. They have four beginner only conveyor lifts, four kid’s adventure zones, and a completely unique ski academy: The Burton Star Wars Experience. Here younglings (3-6) and padawans (7-12) learn the ways of the force, defeat the dark side, and conquer skiing, all among custom wood carvings of R2-D2, C-3PO, Chewbacca, and more. Sierra is also the closest ski resort on Highway 50E coming from Sacramento. And even though it is the top-rated South Shore Ski Resort for beginners, it is also very well known for its terrain parks. Sierra at Tahoe got into Transworld Snowboarding as a top 10 overall resort as well as in the top 10 best parks and pipes in the nation. So whether you’re learning to ski or mastering freestyling, Sierra is the place to be.
