Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park

Located in Coloma, the park’s Gold Discovery Museum and Sutter’s Mill mark the spot where gold was discovered in 1848, triggering the California Gold Rush. The best place to start your tour of Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park is at the visitor center and museum. Interpretive exhibits and programs tell the story of the gold discovery and help make it come alive. Publications about the park can be found in the visitor center.  The park also offers a Gold Discovery Guided Walking Tour twice daily and gold panning daily.  About seventy percent of Coloma is included in Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park and subject to use fees.   Enjoy hikes with spectacular vistas, picnic along the South Fork of the American River learn about how California began from docents in the park.
